Early on the the chapter in Aint So/ Is not the author begins to discuss mixing academic writing styles and traditional colloquial styles. A story that we read in parralel with this was titles Hiden Intellectualism, in this piece the author routinely uses colloquial text to portray his message. A good quote used by gerald Graff in this short story is : When Marilyn Monroe married the playright Arthur Miller in 1956 after divorcing the retired baseball star Joe DiMaggio, the symbolic triumph of geek over jock suggested the way the wind was blowing"(pg. 300)
Another idea used in the aint so/ is not article is knowing your audience and when it is appropriate to use colloquial jargon. Gerald Graff the author of Hidden Intellectualism was not afraid to subdue incorperating slang. One example is when he says "dig the intellectual bit" (pg. 300) Graff was aware his audience would often be educated individuals and he was not afraid this term would confuse them.
